This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 28, 2008:
Just as I was whining that had "only 1 day off", I ventured up into my favorite valley and encountered this wonderful little gaggle of geese. They were working their way down what is normally an ancient cart path, but due to the melting snow, had turned into a twin Colorado River as it carved it's own miniature version of the Grand Canyon.
They were eating the sedge grass, bugs, hoppers and any other critter they deemed yummy as I sat and watched. You see, sitting and watching can be play, too!
Very Long ago, there used to be a lake up here, and every spring the sedge grass comes out and proves to be irresistible to the geese.
So, play-time for me can be just plunking down in the grass, watching, waiting, giggling and snapping a quick photo or two. Play can mean squeaking like a pika's warning to make the geese look up, around and search for the sound!

Last weekend, on Memorial Day, I went out to the old Cherokee ballground to sit and read and walk and take pictures. There was a massive wild turkey, a male, up in a tree. noisy fellow. I had fun trying to get a decent shot of him. I don't think I really got one but just hanging out with him was sweet.
