Where do you find security?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 22, 2008:
I find it in the knowledge that even though this has indeed been the winter of our discontent (or, discount tent), Spring is indeed going to come in, sooner or later. Frankly, it seems that Spring may be late and we will have to shoot fireworks into snow clouds as we did back a few years ago, then we simply transitioned to winter again. Not much of a summer that year.
But, a late afternoon hike up into Hunter Creek found my feet dripping wet and muddy from the torrent that is the runoff this year. Hunter Creek is simply raging with only white water and not a cubic foot of green, calm water to be found. I stood by its bank for about 20 minutes to listen to the boulders being rolled downstream and felt the cold breath of the so-called creek as it moved masses of chilled air down the valley as well.
To embrace the patience of waiting, the suchness of now is where I find some sense of security. Much like this ancient cabin patiently waiting as yet another storm rises over the ridge.
